Power Currupts

Speaking not of politicians, but of everyday situations. You talk mean about someone behind their back, because you CAN do it. You boss over someone and make them feel small because you can do it, knowing its wrong, just because you have the power to do it. You talk rudely to your parents or family, because you know you can get away with it.
If on such microscopic levels power can corrupt us, why do we blame politicians when they get corrupt.
In corollary, an evolutionary consequence is that the feeling of guilt is slowly being replaced with the fear of being found out.

You are mixing behavioral traits with one's moral and ethical beliefs. A foul mouthed person can be morally and ethically correct, and a person with socially acceptable behavior can be immoral and unethical.

One's social behavior has little to do with his or her actions. For instance, when you sometimes say that you wish the other person were hurt, do you actually wish or act in a way to hurt the other person?

An enlightened person is one who is righteous, whose behavior is good and actions are morally and ethical correct.

We complain about our politicians because we seek enlightened souls to run the government.

You are a fool. Probably you are too confused at the moment.

It could be any one of these:

--because you CAN do it.
--just because you have the power to do it
--because you know you can get away with it

;-)

Anonymous you don't get my point. Its not about social behaviour or civic sense or ethics. Its about somebody who is educated in all of the above and still flouts those, because as I said before, he can do it and get away with it.As I have added in my blog for other people who may misunderstand, in corollary, a sense of guilt is replaced with fear of being found out.

I am just wondering whether there is something more to it. like the ego part.

The polititians might very well know that they are going to get blasted in the media; I might know that my subordinate feels that I am bossing around; I might also know that my mom feels bad when I curse her. So I dont think the fear of getting caught will be on my mind.

But take this:
"Hey Palo! you know what? Gowtham somehow came to know the things which we discussed about him yesterday"
"Who cares?" Pallavi walks away.
